lolz, no worry, these things wont happen unless you are those with bad luck type. The most is your car stuck in the middle of the road and you will have to waste $$ calling tow service.

More or less inpurities will go through the nozzles cos the engine is trying to pump out your last bit of fuel to keep it running. The clogging part will be in the long run and this will not cos much of a problem till certain years.

Don't use your reserve fuel, it protects your pump

Not recomend constantly
running any vehicle with an electric fuel pump low on fuel. most
vehicles with an electric fuel pump, have the pump submerged in the fuel
inside the tank.the purpose of this is to cool, and lubricate the pump.
the reserve fuel is there to keep the pump from selfdestructing from
overheating.although some vehicles have a well that the pump sits
inside of,this type of pump is a modular unit, and if the well runs dry
the pump could be dammaged.theese types of pumps cost close to 1000
dollars to have repaired.

yes agree!! 1 point of having low fuel too often is burning off the fuel pump... coz petrol actually takes away the heat frm the fuel pum too!

Good point cheers

heard its easier to evaporate impurities sticking to the tank lol!

Mmm...sorry have to refresh this thread...jus wondering anybody knows the exact fuel tank capacity and also the spare tank capacity?once i pump petrol myself to the max max untill cannot pump already the meter read 55.xxlitres...i know i was travelling on reserve tank and based on the fact that out tank cant measure remaining distance below 50km and i monitor from there..i still can travel abt 20-30km from my estimation...i went thru the e-version of our user manual bt i dun find anything stating on this...

Fully agree! With your radio turned-off the next time, switch only the electricals in your car on the next time you start your car and listen carefully... You will be able to hear a faint whirring sound from the rear floor board roughly where the 'hump' is.

Anything other than a nice whirring sound spells trouble...

Right smack in the middle of the photo is it... =)

I remember once during my NS days, we were on this 3 tonner going up Ahmad Ibrahim flyover towards Fort Road, the tonner half way up....stalled.....found out the fuel level too low can't reach the fuel pump inlet LOL.

and no fire is spotted. Very Happy

Aiyah, not that it'll burst into flames or something... As with all mechanical(even electronic) components with moving parts and bits, heat is a major issue. And when they are subject to constant thermal cycling, especially very drastic ones, the heat can kill components prematurely through deterioration and accelerated wear/tear. In the case of the fuel pump, the motor, valves and other associated moving parts. The fuel it pumps acts much like a radiator helping it dissipate(and carry away) heat. Very Happy

There was once i drove my EX (A) till very 'dry':
1) fuel gauge lighted up (distance to pump indicates 80+km more to go)
2) Continue to travel and noted the mileage till it reaches 70+km then i go pump.

Managed to pump 47.02L (auto stop)

PS: dont try this on your ride......i do not bear any responsibillity to your car.

I for once had the dubious honor of driving my old car until engine shut off cause of no fuel along Machperson road... coasting in neutral for about 100m and managed to turn into Shell station.. The uncle was suprised how come my car was so quiet..

Twice I pumped when indicator lights up and it measures about 45L.

So based on the 52L tank according to specs, the extra 7L should take you at least 7x9km = 63km Smile

How to drive until dry: Drive along with 2L fuel (or 5 if u kiasu) in the tin stored in ur boot, car will stall when all fuel had been burn out, don't worry, no firing kind of thing will happen. Then pour in the 2L fuel and drive to nearest station to pump

pray hard your fuel pump not damage by running dry... not worth to try i think..
btw.. 56l to full tank?.. no matter how i pump... i could achieve no more then 50lits.. (~48lits max.. so far.. with fuel warning and with 20km left in tank.. in attempt to set maximum distant i am comfortable with and already with >600km mileage..)
